Job description

eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.

Responsibilities:

As a Quantum Error Correction Engineer (f/m/d) at eleQtron, you will be part of a team with a mission to develop, set up and operate our trapped-ion quantum computers and relevant test devices. You will collaborate closely with our international team of physicists and engineers from different disciplines. Depending on your level of experience, you will work on one or more of the following tasks:

  • Develop and implement quantum error correction codes and error mitigation techniques for trapped-ion quantum computers

  • Optimize gate sequences and decoding strategies, leveraging stabilizer formalism and fault-tolerant approaches

  • Perform noise characterization and benchmarking to guide hardware and software improvements

  • Implement QEC protocols, producing clear technical documentation, reports, or publications

  • Stay updated on research in QEC and NISQ-era error mitigation, and translate insights into actionable improvements

Job requirements

Required Skills:

  • PhD in (theoritical)physics, mathematics, computer science, or related field, or MSc with demonstarted experience in quantum error correction through research, industrial projects, or substantial open-source contributions (typically 2-3+ years)

  • Hands-on experience implementing QEC codes or error mitigation techniques on real or simulated quantum hardware

  • Strong knowledge of QEC codes (e.g., surface codes, bosonic codes, subsystem codes), stabilizer formalism, and fault-tolerant design

  • Experience with error mitigation methods such as zero-noise extrapolation, probabilistic error cancellation, or measurement error mitigation

  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with quantum computing frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, or QuTiP

  • Ability to work independently on complex problems and deliver high-quality results

  • Fluency in English

We Value:

  • Experience with trapped-ion physics or any other quantum hardware platforms

  • Knowledge of numerical optimization techniques or quantum control

  • Experience in interdisciplinary teams and agile development
